Scotland has a coastline that is over 8500km long so there are plenty of inviting sandy beaches to choose from whether you're travelling as a couple or a large group. On the east coast there are lovely long golden beaches that are accessible from well known seaside bolt holes like St Andrews, Aberdeen, Nairn and Dornoch.
While in the north and west the coastline is more rugged but there are still some incredible beaches and coves and scouring cliffs from which to admire sparkling sea views in places such as the Isle of Sky and the Highlands where you'll find plenty of dog friendly beaches to explore. Places like Thurso in the north are famous for surfing and excellent water sports whilst the most idyllic white sands lie in the magical Hebrides.
One thing that all the beaches in Scotland have in common is that they are never crowded, so if you're into tranquil scenic coastal walks or want to get away from it all and indulge in relaxing beach strolls and cosy blanket picnics by the sea amongst the elements, then Scotland could just be the beachside haven you’ve been looking for.
