Freshwater is a beautiful bay backed by green rolling downs and white cliffs at either end. There is a mix of sand, flint and chalk and there is a pleasant promenade that runs along the shore. There are ample beach facilities including a couple of places to eat or buy ice creams and there are rarely any crowds. There is plenty of self-catering accommodation in Freshwater, some holiday homes boasting hot tubs and sea views. There is also a large nature reserve close by and the beach is generally quiet and spacious.
