Anglesey - Not Just Buckets And Spades

Thursday 28th January 2016

Anglesey is not just an island; it's one of nature's finest playgrounds. All 125 beautiful miles of its coastline are the perfect setting for the pursuit of every outdoor activity, water sport or quiet coastal contemplation. All you need is a wetsuit, swimwear and a sense of adventure and you're ready to experience its many treasures and pleasures.

If you love beautiful, big wind swept beaches that are totally un-spoilt then this is the place for you. Whether you like to relax on them with the warmth of the sun on your skin and soft golden sand between your toes or perhaps you prefer the exhilaration of adrenalin pumping outdoor fun, Anglesey has it all, whether you're a couple, a large group of friends or families with children.

Nature lovers will be amazed at the wildlife here, which is best appreciated by taking the famous Anglesey Coastal Path. How you choose to enjoy its scenic views is up to you... either on foot, by bike or on horseback.

Don't miss the many landmarks on route including Anglesey's highest peak, Holyhead Mountain, the South Stack Lighthouse, the Bwa Gwyn Sea Arches and the Cemlyn Nature Reserve among many other sites and quaint villages to visit. You will no doubt spot falcons, terns, wales, dolphins and seals along the way; totally awe-inspiring no matter what age you are.

Lovers of extreme sports won't be disappointed either, thanks to the excellent surfing conditions, plus kayaking, sailing and coast steering opportunities. Divers will relish hidden shipwrecks and reefs that nestle within the many coves and bays, especially in the mornings when the sea is crystal clear.

If the kids want more than what nature can provide then there are loads of attractions for them to enjoy including the Anglesey Sea Zoo, Pili Palas Nature World and Oriel Ynys Mon Arts. Don't forget your faithful hound as there are plenty of dog friendly places to stay and beaches to explore.

So all you need to do is decide where you would like to base yourself and with so many great beach resorts to choose from that won’t be easy.

Many of the coastal towns are beset with great beach properties to choose from which range in price from the budget rentals up to five star luxury beach houses to rent. If you fancy a bit of the five star treatment and a bit of fun there are even a number of cottages with hot tubs for hire, sure to make your holiday a memorable one adding that extra bit of luxury you deserve.

There are about 20 coastal settlements along the coast of Anglesey but we’ve managed to narrow this down to five recommended spots due to their location, facilities and natural beauty.

First up is Beaumaris, an excellent place to start, with a number of sandy beaches to choose from, its own pretty castle, great food and drink establishments and a few summer festivals.

Benllech is another great beach town with an awesome stretch of golden sand that links directly to the Anglesey Coastal Path which leads to more great beaches and walks. Although on the quiet side its amenities include pubs and a shopping centre nearby.

There's another little coastal village called Cemaes Bay that is perfect for a family holiday. It has a couple of idyllic beaches and a harbour that are very family friendly and set up to entertain kids of all ages without being over commercialised.

But if you want something a little more up beat then head for the picturesque and popular Trearddur Bay that also has two gorgeous sandy havens, one of which offers perfect waves for a surf as well as shallow waters for those who like to dive.

Another well-known holiday haunt is Rhosneigr, a pretty seaside village that lies on the west coast of Anglesey. Its beaches are award winning and its sunsets are second to none on the island. This is a favourite spot for golfers as it has a couple of highly rated golf courses. That said, Rhosneigr is also popular with the windsurfers and surfers as the sea's temperament make it a perfect setting for a variety of water sports.

So there you have it, Anglesey has a lot more to offer apart from just long sandy beaches. To enquire about accommodation check out the extensive selection of beach cottages in Anglesey to rent, many that offer sea views and private beach access.
