Kent - Great Gardens... Better Beaches

Monday 31st October 2016

Known as the Garden of England, Kent on the South East Coast is home to some top-notch family friendly beaches, most of which are adorned with some on the UK’s best beach houses and chalets, many with sea views and direct access to the beach.

There are 350 miles of Kent coast to be explored which throws up all sorts of beachside activities including visiting the famous white cliffs, spending a day with the family building sand castles or trying your hand at kite surfing. Many of the beaches are dog friendly so there’s no need to leave your favourite hounds at home, plus many of the seaside cafes and restaurants are happy to accept pets, making Kent the ideal seaside destination for dog friendly holidays.

If you’re sports minded then kite surfing isn’t the only water sport to keep you entertained in Kent, with jet skiing and sailing on offer or if hanging ten is more your style you can catch a decent wave or two in Thanet where you can treat yourself to a couple of lessons, ideal for beginners or a refresher for the more adept surfer. Kent is also a popular destination for group holidays, whether it’s a special occasion celebration or a water sports holiday, there’s plenty to see and do if you’re travelling with a group of friends.

There are eleven Blue Flag beaches in Kent, most of which can be found in the popular resorts of Broadstairs and Ramsgate, both of which offer beachside accommodation for families with children on budget escapes as well as upmarket luxury beach houses for those seeking a five star beachfront experience.

For the nature lovers check out Dungeness which is rich in wildlife and boasts over 600 different species of plants and has been designated a National Nature Reserve. It is a unique stretch of desolate coast dotted with lighthouses, power stations and quirky wooden beach cottages perched right on the seafront, many enjoying sensational sea views.

Culture vultures will love Whitstable with its boutique shops, bohemian vibe and funky art galleries all centred around a buzzing seafront filled with welcoming pubs and eateries, making it a great spot for families with children or couples taking a romantic seaside break.

Other great beaches can be found in Deal, Kingsdown and New Romney all of which offer a varied selection of family friendly accommodation ranging from budget apartments to luxury beach houses with hot tubs. So when next you visit the coast of Kent, don’t forget to soak up the atmosphere at one of the many award-winning beaches that adorn this spectacular section of the UK coast.
