Sunny Suffolk - Perfect For Dog Friendly Holidays

Wednesday 30th March 2016

If you're a nature lover and are about to organise a large group family holiday, you should try Suffolk. It offers so much to explore along its miles of Heritage Coastline, which by the way is set amongst an enormous Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It's easy to find the perfect spot for a beach holiday in Suffolk thanks to such a huge choice of beautiful, broad sandy beaches and charming little seaside towns. The main resorts are un-spoilt havens of traditional beach life, especially the likes of Southwold, Kessingland and Lowestoft.

These coastal towns are perfect to explore no matter where you decide to stay. If you come as a couple there are loads of romantic, historical places of interest to visit and fine seafood restaurants to relish together. That said, if you come as a large group there are also plenty of fun activities and attractions to keep your group fully entertained from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

Whether your kids love to play on the beach, engage in water sports or discover the rarest of wildlife there are more than enough places to indulge them. The abundant reserves offer nature trails that can be explored by bike or on horseback and there are so many historic sites, landmarks, attractions and quaint little fishing villages that make for special days out.

If you plan to bring your pup with you, no problem as so many of Suffolk's beaches and holiday homes are pet friendly. Your dog will love nothing more than to run free along the broad sands of Suffolk's dune filled beaches.

Take the beautiful coastal village of Lowestoft for instance. This is one of the un-spoilt yet classic beach resorts in Suffolk. It has two blue flag beaches with soft sand, pretty piers and a classic Victorian look and feel.

The main beaches have some restrictions but there is another dog friendly beach close by. Families will love how well organised the beaches are as the facilities are excellent and there are enough activities to ensure the kids never get bored.

Thanks to the spectacular Princess Royal Fountains, wildlife parks, seaside donkey rides, ice-cream parlors and numerous summer events there will be plenty of time for adults to relax while the kids create wonderful holiday memories.

Lowestoft also has evident maritime heritage with plenty of historic landmarks, thatched buildings, a fabulous harbour and Heritage Quay. The village has plenty to entertain adults too thanks to its shopping area, museums, bowling centre, cinema and theatre, which once hosted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

A little further down this stunning coastline lies the superb family friendly resort of Kessingland, a sandy haven with its fair share of attractions but still close enough to Lowestoft to enjoy its spoils. This is an excellent choice for fuss-free family holidays as it has an enormous sandy beach, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre.

Next door to the beach is the Benacre Nature Reserve, a bird watching haven, which welcomes dogs on leads. There is a lovely restaurant right on the beach and plenty more eateries and pubs in town.

A little further south is the popular resort of Southwold, which is like an island as it lies on a lovely peninsular and seems to have everything an idyllic English seaside town should have. The list includes blue flag beaches, a picturesque pier and promenade, multi-coloured beach huts, a stonking light house, a quaint little harbour and some bracing cliff tops walks offering spectacular sea views.

Whilst there are some restrictions here on the main blue flag beach during the summer months, there is always a space close by that welcomes dogs all year round. One such place is Southwold Benes, just up from the main beach.

The town centre comes alive in summer with fine restaurants, cool cafes, trendy hangouts, museums and shops. But there's also a roster of cultural events to add to this including a funfair, boat tours, treks, cinema and a theatre.

Suffolk can be summed up as traditional British beach culture at its very best!
