The Jewel in South Devon

Thursday 24th November 2016

South Devon is home to one of the UK’s most popular seaside holiday destinations, the English Riviera. Hugely popular for water sports, a long list of award winning beaches and its many attractions and fresh local cuisine, the English Riviera is a must visit venue for couples, families with children and groups.

Made up of top holiday destinations including Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the English Riviera is not just great beaches and swaying palm trees, it’s actually well known to have more attractions than any other UK resort, a pretty bold statement for sure but well worth checking out for yourself.

Torquay, the birthplace of famous crime writer Agatha Christie, is the place to go if you’re into festivals, retail therapy and enjoy the vibrant buzz of an international marina. Whether you’re into world class dining or simply to take the kids to see penguins and otters, Torquay has it all and more. Your biggest problem will be trying to fit it all in in one visit!

Brixham is well known for its fishing industry so you can rest assure that you’re in for some of the best fish and chips in the UK when you stay here. The busy harbour is home to all manner of vessel from fancy yachts to heritage trawlers not to mention the colorful fishing boats that head out in search of the days best catch. Whether you’re treating the kids to a pirates show or diving on one of the many wrecks nearby, spending you next family break in Brixham won’t disappoint.

Paignton is well known for its vibrant nightlife, trendy cafes and bars and all of things… a Zoo! The beaches are famous for being clean, safe and ideal for families with children. And if you’re up for a bit of action by the seaside check out the Paignton Pier with its arcades or try your luck on the crazy golf. Popular water sports include water skiing and paddle boarding with most families or couples opting for a day trip on one of the many boats for hire.

No need to leave your faithful hound at home if you’re heading to the English Riviera for your next beach holiday as there is plenty of dog friendly accommodation available. Livermead Sands beach in Torquay is dog friendly during the summer months as is Shoalstone Beach in Brixham. If you’re holidaying in Paignton then check out North Sands beach that allows dogs. You’ll find that many of the cafes, restaurants and shops will make your pets welcome, so there is definitely no need to leave your precious hounds behind if you’re thinking of planning a holiday to the English Riviera in South Devon.
