Portmellon is a tiny coastal town near Mevagissey, south of St Austell sitting within one of the many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Cornwall. It's sandy cove is great for swimming in at low tide and boasts exciting rock pools for budding marine biologists to explore. During high tide the gurgling seas reclaim the whole beach and if you are travelling with young children be aware there are no life guards on hand during the holiday season.
Portmellon has escaped any commercialisation and opted instead to protect its natural habitat so much so that seals feel welcome to enjoy the local beach and are often seen resting on the cove rocks. There is a great pub just off the beach, but if you need more than that then you'll find the usual beach amenities at the main local beach of Mevagissey, only a 20 minute walk away. Portmellon is famous for artisan boatbuilding and many come to marvel at the wooden craft workshop.
Staying here is very popular, so if you plan on booking one of the many self-catering Portmellon cottages listed below you’d better get a move on. Ideal for families or romantic couples, these child friendly cottages offer a range of features, some boasting sea views with some that are pet friendly with an enclosed garden and off road parking.
