This beautifully converted tower was originally an HM Coastguard radar monitoring station for shipping in the Channel. Isolated stylish and quirky - this bolthole has it all. Sat in the middle of the pebbles on Dungeness’ quiet shores this former coastguard’s lookout has been reborn by interior architecture firm Johnson Naylor. It’s retained the original 50s structure while integrating quality furnishings such as limestone floors.

Wake to the sound of the sea explore the dramatic landscape with its renowned light then warm up in the atmospheric pubs of Romney Marsh stroll along the shingle beach look out across the vast open sea and you’ll feel like you’ve arrived in another world. Stay at Coastguard Lookout and discover a fascinating landscape full of myth and legend surrounded by the haunting vastness of Romney Marsh a flat open landscape of wide skies with a backdrop of the eerie and majestic Nuclear Power station.

Dungeness with its wild landscape is intensely peaceful there are dramatic views in every direction. Coastguard Lookout is a warm and welcoming place converted by renowned interior architecture firm Johnson Naylor who retained the original 50’s structure whilst cleverly transforming the interior using the highest quality fittings and materials crafted so that it sensitively retains echoes of its former function overlooking the Channel. The unique layout will appeal to those looking for something cosy contemporary and different.

The tower offers much of the creature comforts holidaymakers have come to expect including underfloor heating beautiful limestone floors WiFi and a log burner in the sitting room ideal for those crisp winter breaks watching an endless procession of ships on the horizon through the panoramic windows with on clear days glimpses of Cap Gris Nez the closest point of France to England.

Built originally as a HM Coastguard radar monitoring station for shipping in the Channel when this role was no longer needed with the advent of GPS the building was converted as a studio and weekend home for a growing family into this contemporary home the perfect location for a holiday away from the routine and stress of modern life.

Described by the Great Destinations Radio Show as one of the most unusual places to stay in the UK it really is one of our most unique holiday cottages in Dungeness.

About The House
Coastguard Lookout: sleeps 5 with 2 receptions, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (via bedroom 1), two balconies, patio on the pebble beach, adjacent parking for several cars.
The property is a converted 1950’s tower, distributed over four floors with a steep metal staircase - this would not be suited to those with mobility issues or very small children.
The entire property is open plan, no doors - division by way of walls and staircase.

Ground Floor
Reception room, with kitchen and dining area with views over the sea. Dining table and bench seats 6. Underfloor heating.
Kitchen area, electric oven and hob, two fridges with ice box each (suitable for ice trays), compact dishwasher, small storage area for food.

First Floor
Family room (sleeps 3), double bed, single bed and open plan bathroom (no doors and only a partial wall with curtain partition separating bedroom from bathroom).
Bathroom including a bath and handheld shower.

Second Floor
Sitting room, with gallery views of the sea, access available to the slim balcony view point, built in seating and armchairs for 6, log burner (startup logs provided from October to March), iMac computer (TV accessible via this device).

Top Floor
Compact tower bedroom space, double bed (sleeps 2). Door to balcony with 2 exterior loungers. No blinds.

Patio area running directly onto the beach.
Please feel free to bring your own BBQ to the property but unfortunately one is not supplied.
